Tropical Turkey Burgers

tropical turkey burgers

Pineapple is one of my absolute favorites foods and I love eating it in a variety of ways. Last night, I got to have it on a burger for the first time and my kids and hubby agree with me – it was amazing! I marinated the turkey patties in barbeque sauce for an hour before cooking them, melted pepper jack cheese and topped with heated pineapple slices once they were broiled to perfection. Mmm! We will definitely be having these again.

pepper jack cheese

pineapple slices

Directions

Like I mentioned in the intro, you want to let the turkey patties marinate in the barbeque sauce for an hour before cooking. Pour some of the sauce in the dish, set the patties down, and then pour more sauce on the patties themselves. To cook, coat a broiler pan with foil, cut slits for the fat to drain, and place the patties on top. Then broil them in the oven. It takes 7-8 minutes to cook one side; flip and cook for another 5-10 minutes. Check if they’re done by cutting a little bit into one; if you don’t see pink, you should be golden!

While the burgers are cooking, heat the pineapple slices in a pan until good and hot.

Set burger on bun, top with your favorite cheese (my kids like muenster while my husband and I prefer pepper jack), complete with hot pineapple. And that’s it!

Enjoy!

I think I would have liked grilled pineapple more than just heated but I worked with what I had. Also, I think having a tiny bit of fresh barbeque sauce on the finished burger would have added to the flavor. But they were awesome and healthy anyway!

    1. It’s definitely a recipe (more like a throw-together meal) that’s easy to modify so everyone is happy! I think I’m going to add onion rings on next time in place of the pineapple! 🍍
