Day in the Life

Day in the Life (May 2017)

May 22, 2017

Our night was somewhat better than the few before it, but Elizabeth still woke up a few times and was upset. When she got up at 5:45, I figured that she’d stay up after nursing, and I was right. We got up for the day at 6:00 and said good morning to Stephen as he was getting ready for work. She played in the living room and watched a Baby Einstein dvd that we got from the library while I sat in the dining room and did a little bit on my laptop. I edited some photos and then read a few more posts on Karen’s blog (more on that soon) and then Samuel woke up at 6:55. After a little while, I asked if he wanted to watch a show on amazon; he did but he didn’t know what he should watch so I browsed for a minute and found Popeye cartoons. He really liked it, just like I remember Joshua did. 😊 aww

By 7:25, Elizabeth was ready to nurse and zonk out. I was grateful, it meant I could take a shower, eat breakfast and start on some housework.

So that’s what I did. I cleaned the bathroom, tidied up around the house and showered, got dressed, brushed my teeth and did the small amount of makeup I’ve recently been applying. I also started some laundry.

The kids had electronics until 9:00, and then the boys had breakfast (I believe that Maggie had eaten earlier). Then they all went to do their chores while I ate breakfast and then called the pediatrician to schedule Elizabeth’s appointments for May and July. I was bummed to hear that she will need vaccines at both. :( I have to keep reminding myself what the reason is for the pokes.

A few minutes after ten, Elizabeth woke up and I asked Maggie to be with her in the other room while I vacuumed, then the boys and I had a morning snack. Elizabeth was really happy playing and exploring the house. At one point, ah tried repeatedly to get Samuel’s goldfish crackers. :)

Samuel played with playdoh for quite some time, making all kinds of imaginative things and noises!

Joshua watched science videos and then did his writing and spelling assignments in our office. Maggie hid away in her room for a long time (I’m assuming she did school work but I really can’t be sure!)

At 11:00, after changing a dirty (cloth, I’m back to using cloth!) diaper, I nursed a very hungry little Elizabeth. While feeding her, I called and scheduled a dentist appointment for myself. She was really clingy after eating and I had to sit on the floor with her while I attempted to read to Samuel. He then illustrated pictures of his favorite parts of the books I’d read.

Samuel was somewhat grumpy about doing anything but playing so I limited his morning lessons to just reading and a few workbooks. He loves doing hidden pictures just like I enjoyed as a child (though I sure never did them as part of “school”)

It started raining at 11:30, just as Maggie and Samuel started playing a Lego game on the PlayStation 2. Joshua read his chapter book for awhile and then I let him play Phantom Forces on Roblox while I got on Walgreen’s website to upload photos. Once I was done, I joined Joshua on Roblox. It’s a lot of fun, both being on his team AND being his “enemy,” and having a little friendly competition!

By noon, or shortly thereafter, we were all ready to start fixing lunch. Of course there was the typical silliness happening…

After lunch, the kids played Minecraft together for a little while and I got back on Walgreens to finish uploading and ordering. I ended up ordering 216 photos which covers July through September of last year. I still have eight months before being caught up! :|

It had stopped raining and was really beautiful and sunny. Samuel and I sat down and did his reading lesson and then he played while Maggie and Joshua went back to their schoolwork and I went to nurse Elizabeth and put her to bed.

She was asleep by 2:00, at which time Samuel and I played restaurant with the pretend food. He started talking about magic and how something was enchanted so I went along with it. I pretended to drink from a tiny pineapple with a straw in it, and suddenly I was enchanted! ;) I jumped up and said that I was in love with this or that (love potion?) and he especially thought it was amusing when I kissed him all over, lol. We had a good time. I even included Maggie, who had been sitting on the couch (either reading or doing her Spanish app, I can’t remember) and Joshua who was on the computer.

I needed to start the slow cooker by 2:30, so we ended play by about 2:20. Unfortunately, as I opened the chicken, I found that it was somewhat stinky, and I did NOT want to cook it. It wasn’t expired so I don’t know what the problem was. Things like this make me want to go back to vegetarianism! I ran the dishwasher and rounded up Maggie and Joshua to do geography.

Samuel (not so quietly) played with his Moana fish hook in the living room as I read about Russia to his siblings, and then we read from the Bible. Elizabeth woke up at ten after three and was pretty happy until she bumped her forehead on the floor. :( So, Maggie held her while we finished reading.

I played Roblox with Joshua again at 4:00 while Samuel had a snack and watched a movie and Maggie blogged. Elizabeth hung out with me, screeching happily and eating puffs, lol. It was about this time that Stephen called and said he was on his way home. When he arrived, he picked up Maggie and they left for Publix to return the chicken (and another package that smelled the same way – that was $10+ worth of chicken!)

They got home (and had unfortunately had a bit of a fight while there) and then Stephen again left, but this time with Joshua who wanted to go catch Pokémon and also go to WalMart because Stephen needed new reading glasses. Maggie and Samuel played a Pikachu game on Roblox together while I made dinner (and watched Elizabeth wander around).

Maggie and I ate at 7:00 and then the boys ate when they finally got home. After dinner, we watched an episode of Home Improvement and then Elizabeth was ready to go to bed. Once she was asleep, I played Lego Star Wars with Samuel. I enjoyed it but man, I was beat! I am so tired every night. *sigh* He went to sleep finally at 9:45 and I went to bed right afterward.

This was a pretty typical school day for us right now, but every day is still so different.

Thanks for following along!

  1. I just love this type of post. Great to know what you and your sweet family are up to. You’re the nicest mom and you spend so much time playing with the kiddos, I bet they’ll have the best memories. Hugs!!

  2. Too bad about the chicken, smelly=no good! Perhaps it just wasn’t kept at the correct temperature between the time it was packed and the time it his the grocery store’s fridge. Elizabeth looks so happy to be toddling around! It’s so hard to keep on top of pictures! I just updated our frames (about 20 pictures in all) a week ago and they were waaaay overdue!

    1. She is so happy with the freedom mobility has given her!! She’s all over the place!
Oh I know, it’s ridiculous how many photos I take and then want to order. :P I rarely change frames, way to go!!

  3. It always amazes me how you manage to do everything all in one day! You must be the master of scheduling and multitasking…I have much to learn. :) Love hearing about the kids and seeing pictures too. Elizabeth is really toddling around now! Ok, now I’m curious what you are growing in that container…maybe sage? The tall seedling…whatever it is, it’s growing well! :)

    1. Haha, it just seems like a lot because I’m talking about so many kids!! Oh, she is so happy toddling around. She is making life interesting!! lol
Actually, the plants are a mixed flowers seed packet that Samuel and started some weeks ago. :) No idea how they’ll turn out but they sure are growing!

    1. Hi, I have missed catching up with you!
Lol, like I told another friend, it just seems like a lot because I’m talking about so many different kids and their different stages!! ;)

  4. Hello again! Busy days, right?! So much done! Hard to keep a house and a family…
I just got some chicken from Costco ($18 worth!!) that is bad as well. How disappointing, isn’t it? And gross. I couldn’t get the smell out of my nose for a hour after that…

  5. I understand why you’re tired in the evenings but WOW do you do a lot each day! You’re like the Energizer Bunny!
There’s nothing worse than chicken that’s gone off. I won’t even let the trimmings from chicken go in my kitchen can. I wrap it in plastic and make Mr. C take it right outside to the garbage can!
Elizabeth is so cute in the picture with Maggie after she bumped her little head. She looks interested in what Maggie is doing but a little cross, too. She’s such a total cutie pie! And the pictures of the rest of the kids are great! I love seeing your kids!

    1. I love how full our days are, but yeah, I am beat by evening! lol
Haha, she’s a rascal – you should see her walking around here like she owns the joint! Still a month until she has her first birthday and she’s walking like she’s been doing it all along! :D OH, yes, she gets cross, let me tell you! I’m going to have a fun time with her when she’s two and three. Ha
And I really hate raw chicken. It makes me so nauseous. It’s not fair that it can SMELL, too. :P

      1. Amen to God for that. I know it’s hard work but it’s the best job in the world. Your kids are so happy, love you so much, and from what Maggie writes about your hubby, he is too. That is a testament to the great job you are doing :):)

  6. Jack also spends most of his time just exploring the house. It’s quite fun to watch him be fascinated by the most random things. He does keep coming and checking back to see what I am doing and often to look inside my mouth, which is his new fascination.
