When I went for my twelve week midwife appointment, there was a lot going on (namely, all four kids were sick!) so something that happened that day only finally caught up with me yesterday – two weeks after the fact. The midwife had attempted to hear the baby’s heartbeat with the Doppler but there was nothing. This, in and of itself, is not a big deal as many times it’s difficult to find it that early. So, they simply popped me on ultrasound to make sure all was well and that’s what we found, a healthy little one with a beating heart. :) The midwife said something about the reason we hadn’t been able to hear it was because the placenta is in the front, or rather, between the baby and my belly. Hmm, okay. So, yesterday it all of a sudden occurred that I’ve never had or seen that before so I googled it. Well, from my quick reading, it seems that I have an anterior placenta. Apparently, it’s not a big deal medically but it can be a cause for concern if it’s near the incision area (and you are going to have a cesarean) or if it becomes low-lying (and you were going to have a vaginal birth). I read that the placenta can (and generally does) migrate upward throughout the pregnancy so having an anterior at 12 weeks doesn’t mean much in the way of the baby’s delivery, but I’ve never been told I had this before so it’s odd. Oh, and an anterior placenta can mean two things that sort of stink but are harmless: it can be more difficult for them to find the heartbeat (which I’ve already found is true), and feeling movement can be muffled because it’s as if the baby is kicking a pillow. Anyway, there you go, something I didn’t know about pregnancy even though this is my fifth baby! :P
The other day, Joshua and I went out in the afternoon to do a little shopping. We checked out the secondhand furniture store by Habitat for Humanity to see if we could find some sort of shelving unit or entertainment center for all the homeschooling books that I want to keep out (and up, out of Elizabeth’s reach), but we didn’t find anything that I loved. Next, we went to Kohl’s. I found a cute top for me and an adorable pajama set for Elizabeth. I had a $10 off coupon and the two things were on sale so my total was just a little over $5. ^_^
Then we went to Hobby Lobby so I could look at fabric. I got some violet flannel to sew some more cloth diapers (this amount will probably make about five of them) and a blue, floral cotton to make a few pillow covers (but I think I’m actually going to wait until we move to make them).
Elizabeth is becoming such a little character! More and more each day, she is doing things that show she’s a toddler, no longer a baby. She plays little games with us and laughs freely, it’s so cute!
I power walked last night! It wasn’t even quite a mile, but it was something, and it was all I could manage after the busy day I had. I am going to do pilates today and check out some of the youtube recommendations I’ve gotten recently. :)
